First Half

Reggie Lynch scored twice inside against a not so physical Moritz Wagner and that’s a great sign.  Not a good sign is the early misses from Nate Mason (0 for 3)….Lynch just nudged Mark Donnal aside, grabs a board, scores for the third time.  Jordan Murphy pretty much did the same thing the possession before.  Gophers are dominating up front with Reggie and Jordan scoring all 11 points….Derrick Walton Jr is also 0 for 3 like Mason so they are even.  Who steps up first?...Gophers get a shock clock violation…MN 11 Mich 7…

Bakary comes on, gives some great position D against Wagner, forces a turnover.  Gophers need to get to the next TV timeout with Reggie at one foul...Reggie back on….What does Wagner do? Stretch the defense.  He just took Reggie out to the perimeter and hit a three…Dupree McBrayer has a shot go all the way down and out.  Tough break for a guy not shooting well….Wagner hits another triple….Ahmad Gilbert on giving Amir Coffey a rest.  Meanwhile Dupree makes two foul shots which should be good for his confidence…Those foul shots help and Dupree nails a big three moving off the Springs attack….Springs has not points yet.  They need to get him a good look.  Can’t have him go on a cold streak now…MN 17 Mich 15…

Gilbert gets middle but fights back to get a block on the shot attempt.  Good recovery from Gilbert…Duncan Robinson curled a screen perfectly to catch and score at the rim.  No Reggie Lynch in the game to help inside, Akeem was too far out of position to defend the attempt…Murphy with another worker putback.  It’s about effort and his effort is 100 percent back…Akeem Springs misses.  Akeem misses again, but Akeem keeps fighting for his board and gets an And1!  Determined to not go on a cold streak…Mason and Walton are both without a field goal…Murphy with a spin move into a one hand touch shot! Wow…DJ Wilson cuts behind the defense beating Murphy who got lost for a second.  Lay-up.  Again, no Reggie around for the low post defense…Mason hits Springs for a corner three! Akeem determined to not go on a slump!...MN 28 Mich 25….

Michigan gets a fourth score at the rim since Lynch has been out.  So much space around the basket…Minnesota is 4 of 11 from the foul line right now.  Just gross….Minnesota 29 Michigan 27…

Second Half

Amir Coffey gets a touch and goes to Reggie Lynch for a low post score.  Exactly what we asked for on twitter.  Then, what we said couldn’t happen on twitter, Reggie gets a fast third foul.  Now Curry on and that hole in the middle is there once again.  Michigan exploited it like crazy before…Gophers go to Amir who attacks, dishes to Curry, Curry his a free throw…Springs attacks and dishes to Curry for a baseline jumper.  Eric has a good looking stroke and nice form…Gophers give up two more scores at the rim. No center on the floor is killing them…Springs now has his third after a push-off on a made basket…Irvin attacks the middle and Michigan scores again.  That is seven baskets at the rim in the last six game minutes for Michigan when Reggie was off the floor…Michigan gets a switch and Walton scores over Curry for a three.  That cannot be a trend…MN 36 Mich 38…

Irvin drives under the basket by Coffey, sees Bakary so goes away to about 12 feet, shoots there.  Bakary impact forces Irvin away but he still hits…Bakary with a great kickout to Coffey who hits a three!  Big shot.  Nice pass and work from BK…Mason to Dupree in transition for a three!  Big shot. Dupree has a huge nine considering what he’s done lately.  The Barn is so loud right now!!!!...Wolverines again attack and again don’t go at Bakary.  He’s doing the deep post job keeping them away….And of course Bakary gets his mandatory illegal screen…Dupree gets flattened but no call.  Michigan flies the other way and hits a transition three.  Pitino timeout…MN 43 Mich 47…

Pitino comes out of the timeout with Reggie screening for Dupree, Dupree catches on the curl and scores plus the action opposite took away the help defender.  Good call out of the break…Minnesota comes out of the timeout with another set that gets a score.  That’s a key point right there.  Gophers on a 4-0 run and both were off timeouts where Pitino called a set….Eric Curry goes out to a big applause.  Great minutes working as a defender and scoring three times…Reggie gets foul four and it was legit.  Moved his arm into the defender’s attempt. And whomever this official is is straight from the Ted Valentine school of “I want attention”….Curry gets stuck coming off a screen which allows Wagner the wide open dunk.  But Curry comes back the other way and hits a jumper.  Eric is playing well but the Gophers needs a big on the floor.  Wagner scores deep inside again.  Just too big for the Gopher fours…MN 55 Michigan 52…

Eric Curry spins on Wagner, draws a fourth foul, hits one foul shot…That will even things out in terms of what the foul situation is on bigs, and Curry is really giving Minnesota an edge…Minnesota is 12 of 24 at the foul line…Mason hits Coffey on a perfect backdoor but Michigan is in help and forced a reverse miss.  The Wolverines then pushed the pace the other way for a score…Foul on Michigan, Walton doesn’t like it, Michigan bench gets a technical….Mason hits both, Gophers are now 18 of 30 at the foul line after Coffey pair of makes.  That’s sixty percent which isn’t too bad considering the start.  Michigan is 8 of 15…MN 62 Mich 57…

Nate Mason attacks, draws in the defense, leaves a perfect pass for a monster Jordan Murphy dunk…Nate Mason with a four point play hitting a three and the foul shot! Huge make…Derrick Walton going back at him with a three, a steal, and a break score…Wagner steals the ball from Dupree and goes for a dunk! Really? Did that just happen?....Eric Curry attacks, spins, scores!  Eric has been huge…Walton gets by Mason, not backside protection so Walton scores over Murphy plus is at the foul line for a make…Mason misses the pull-up with 37 seconds to go…Walton misses a three, Amir chasses it down, Michigan gets a jump ball….Wilson with the spin move to score and we have a two point game.  That was actually a set from Beilein that was well defended by Minnesota….Dupree McBrayer makes two foul shots…MN 72 Michigan 69…

Minnesota defends the Wolverines well but DJ Wilson hits a bomb!! What can you do…overtime, again…Mn 72 Michigan 72…

Overtime.  Again.

Curry keeps Wagner in front, forces a travel.  Gophers staying with smaller line-up as Murphy and Curry have been so good…Mason attacks and scores but Michigan hits a corner three.  Mason then responds with an attacking miss….Curry and Amir defend a screen well so Irvin takes a deep three late in the clock and it misses.  Good defense…Jordan Murphy with a putback dunk for the lead!!!!....Wagner fouls out on a reach against Coffey…Amir makes two foul shots and Minnesota is up three…Irvin launches, and misses again….Wilson hits in the clutch, again! Help couldn’t get over to get a hand in his face off the ball screen…Amir Coffey makes two more foul shots…Walton misses a three and that will do it….MN 83 Michigan 78…
