"I was to take a tour of campus with Coach P.J. Fleck when I got to Minnesota today," Michigan offensive lineman Michael Furtney said to GI. "We then took a tour of the facilities and were able to listen to several speakers about what Minnesota has to offer education wise. Coach Fleck then addressed to the whole group and talked about his vision for Minnesota. After that we got to go to the Minnesota versus Michigan basketball game, so I'd say it was a pretty good visit. It was nice to be able to come back and see everything a second time as my first time on campus it seemed a little overwhelming due to its size. This time it wasn't as overwhelming as everything is actually pretty close to each other."
"When their new Athletes Village is done, it will be the nicest football facility I have ever seen," Furtney told GI about Minnesota's new facilities. "They are in the middle of construction right now and they said that it should be done in November. TCF Bank Stadium is amazing also as it ranks right up there with the nicest college stadiums that I have ever seen. I got to talk with the offensive line coach, Ed Warinner a lot today. I was either with him or around him for most of my day. He seems like a great guy and there is no doubt he is a very good offensive line coach. Coach Fleck talked a lot with my family about how important this upcoming 2018 class will be for Minnesota and how I have an opportunity to be a part of something very special there."
Furtney and his family were able able to spend time with another Michigan offensive lineman on Sunday.
"I got to talk with Jalen Mayfield and his family today, and we've known each other since I met Jalen last summer at a camp. He seems like a great guy. We talked quite a bit today. My dad and his dad have talked several times at camps and combines throughout the past year."
Minnesota's made quite the impression in a short amount of time for the Furtney family.
"I am all about relationships, so I'd say my favorite part of the visit had to be getting to know the coaches better and talking with them all day. I really like Minnesota. They are making my decision very hard in the recruiting process. It is very hard to find anything negative about Minnesota, the coaching staff, the facilities, etc. Anyone who gets to see the University of Minnesota and listen to Coach Fleck for a while will be very impressed with what they have to offer. I'm honestly not sure when I'll make my decision, but I would like to make my commitment sooner than later though. That way I can just focus on football and getting better for my team next season."
