Reserve Kim Nelson leaves women's basketball team

5-11 senior guard Kim Nelson of Columbia Heights (MN) High has left the women's basketball team. She will graduate from the university in December. The former walk-on played in just 13 games this past season, avergaing only 0.2 points and 0.5 rebounds in 2.0 minutes per game.

Kim Nelson averaged 0.9 points and 0.9 rebounds in eight games as a sophomore and 0.3 points and 0.6 rebounds per contest as a freshman.

Nelson lettered 12 times at Columbia Heights High, including six times in basketball. She moved up to varsity as a seventh-grader and was an honorable mention all-state pick by both the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press as a junior and senior. Nelson was a three-time all-conference selection, who scored 1,100 points in her high school career.

The Gophers finished 25-6 last season, losing to Texas in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Tulane and Stanford.
