Pregame

The Gophers have a fantastic list of visitors for tonight.  Committed Daniel Oturu will be here along with 5 star talent Tre Jones, 4 star forward Race Thompson, 4 star guard A.J. Green, forward Jarvis Thomas, and 2019 guard Tyrell Terry from DeLaSalle.....Tonight is senior night as Minnesota honors guard Darin Haugh and shooting guard Akeem Springs.  Both are playing for their third college.  Springs is in his first year here, Haugh his third.  Haugh played locally at Eastview....Minnesota is in gold tonight...Minnesota will continue to start Nate Mason, Springs, Amir Coffey, Jordan Murphy, and Reggie Lynch.  That is unless Haugh gets to start.  He's played in ten games in his Golden Gopher history...Nebraska has Glynn Watson, Tai Webster, Evan Taylor, Michael Jacobson, and Jordy Tshminga....

First Half

First attempt goes right to Jordan Murphy to get him going again.  Scored quickly at the front of the rim…Reggie Lynch gets his first foul on an illegal screen.  Fast foul too and it may change the way he defends for some time…Amir with a really nice pass to Lynch for the finish….Amir with a nasty move and, goodness a horrible brick.  Ugliest miss of the year?  He’s been there highest percentage Big Ten three point shooter though…Minnesota moves the ball and gets another Reggie dunk.  Great ball movement early….MN 8 NB 7…

Amir Coffey puts a guy on his rear with a crazy crossover but when Amir attacked, he missed.  This time he missed short. Those would have been incredible highlights too…Amir feeds a cutting Bakary for a two hand finish.  Ball movement continues to be high level…If I remember correctly Jordy T had Bakary Konate for a host on his official visit here last spring.  The two of them just had a physical loose ball dive that could of gotten wild had the ref not blew the whistle when he did…Nebraska has three offensive rebounds already and it’s lead to more than half of their points…MN 14 NB 12…

Tai Webster with a score on another putback.  That’s at least three, maybe four times that’s been an issue.  Gophers not collecting the ball with two hands after separating physically…Jordan Murphy dives on the floor Rodman/Superman style to collect a loose ball.  Impressive effort that won a jumpball…Mason uses the Lynch ball screen to corner turn and quickly pull-up.  Not much space but he made the best of that space…Yet another Husker score on a putback…That’s at least four…Michael Hurt grabs a defensive board.  It’s about time somebody did…Gophers had Hurt switch on a double screen having McBrayer pick up his man and it was a great switch forcing a tough miss.  Looks like Hurt made that call himself as Pitino praised him after the stop….McBrayer battles over another screen to stop a shot…Dupree with the assist to Murphy on a great pass. Dupree doing some good things…Murphy gives up an offensive rebound and Ed Morrow scores. This is ridiculous…Hurt battles and gets a defensive board…MN 20 NB 18…

Jordan Murphy gets the deep post touch, turns right shoulder again, scores with a quick bounce off the floor.  Jordan has a quick eight and defenders can’t get off the floor with him to do anything when he’s on balance getting off the floor…McBrayer scores but hits the deck and can’t get back so his man Glynn Watson scores with a pull-up…Dupree is gassed so he has a tough time with another screen and Huskers hit.  He’s been working hard, you can forgive those scores…Amir leaves his feet in an undisciplined way, fouls a Husker…Nate Mason dives on the floor to secure a loose ball.  Gophers on the floor!...Murphy with another finish at the rim!  Too quick off his feet, ball movement is top notch…MN 30 NB 25…

Amir Coffey’s first score is a baseline on-dribble pull-up off a skip pass…Gopher defensive rebounding has been much better since McBrayer and Hurt livened up the defensive energy.  Others caught on, defense is all together better…McBrayer with a brilliant feed to Curry for an And1…MN 40 NB 27…

Second Half

Eric Curry with a fantastic pass off a cut to a cutting Lynch.  That was four rapid Gopher passes and the ball never touched the ground.  Second dunk for Reggie of the half off of excellent passing…Nebraska goes zone and the ball movement that has been great all game leads to a wide open Mason three make.  They pass too well to zone them. Bad idea…Gophers keep moving the ball around the arc and hit McBrayer for a three….Mason explodes by Watson with a nasty crossover and gets to the rim for a lay-up.  Completely froze Watson with that move…McBrayer with a transition three, then a pull-up attack.  He’s in double figures too…MN 63 NB 44…

Pitino draws up a high ball screen with a double coming or a backside eventual screen on the opposite short corner and as we all look at the actions Dupree came flying down the lane for a one hander.  Not sure if Pitino called for that or if McBrayer saw the opening and went at it hard…Michael Hurt passes up a shot at the top to hit Akeem coming off a screen for his first basket.  Michael could of shot that but went to the senior instead…Mason with a great needle thread assist but Springs missed the dunk.  That’s too bad as that would have been great for Akeem…Nate Mason taps out a board and Nebraska gets it.  No problem.  He then helped over forcing a bad pass, collected it, pushed the pace, scored an And1…MN 73 NB 53…

Amir re-directs off a dribble hand off, Nebraska defender falls again, Amir hits a three. I’ve never seen moves, fakes, etc drop this many defenders to the ground…McBrayer with a behind the back pass to a cutting Murphy for a dunk.  It’s too easy…Coffey dropping dimes all over.  Mason cuts and scores.  Nebraska defense looks like it’s just given up entirely….Pitino pulls Murphy with just under five to go.  May as well, no need to get somebody hurt…Mason cruises through the Huskers again like Lightning McQueen in small town traffic…MN 84 NB 60...

Darin Haugh has just under four minutes to play, and he gets a defensive board…Webster hits a three over Haugh and with 2:37 to go the nerves start to hit. “Too early?”….But McBrayer slices through for another score…Brady Rudrud and Gaston Diedhiou on the floor…Rudrud goes right there to attack and just missed. That was a great move by Brady….Darin misses a three and the entire world was hoping it would go…Stephon Sharp on now…Hurt to a cutting Brady Rudrud and we have a local late game basket…Minnesota 88 Nebraska 73…
