Postgame Video: Daniel Oturu talks AV loss, Gopher season

Gopher committed Daniel Oturu put up 17 points with 18 rebounds and six blocks for Cretin-Derham Hall in a state tournament loss to Apple Valley today. Oturu talked with the media about the game and his future Minnesota Gopher team shorty after.

One college coach texted me "he's a future pro" after watching Daniel Oturu face-up and attack the basket for four first half completions at the front of the rim.  Oturu blocked three Tre Jones shots (plus three others), dominated the defensive boards, and showed off a touch around the basket despite having to shoot over the arms of a physical 6-foot-9 Apple Valley post.

Oturu scored on 6 of 11 field goal attempts facing the basket and using a dribble before touching in the completion.  His core strength has improved so he was often on balance completing his move but even more core strength will allow Daniel to get closer to the rim and complete. It's coming too. Daniel has added a lot of strength to his frame in the past twelve months plus there is much room to add weight on his wide shoulders.

Daniel also has a soft touch from mid-range that he continues to show game after game.  He made only five of nine foul shots but made 81 of 119 for the season so he shoots with quality there.

Daniel led Minnesota in rebounds and blocked shots this winter and talked after the game about maybe being the college shot blocker that Reggie Lynch is.

Oturu had future Head Coach Richard Pitino, and future assistants Ben Johnson, Ed Conroy, and Kimani Young sitting courtside for his game.
