Xavier Johnson is a guard to watch close this spring

Six-foot-1 guard Xavier Johnson out of Bishop O’Connell in Virginia is a recruit to watch this spring as one that could really earn his way on to several radars.

Xavier Johnson, who is from Arlington, Virginia, just finished up a standout junior year in which he led his team to 20 victories.

“My high school season finished up first by a loss in the WCAC playoffs from Dematha by three,” said Johnson.

“We fought hard in that game but didn't get the result we wanted. I'm proud of actually the whole season besides nit getting the ring at the end. But we won 20 games this season which is a pretty good record and majority of our losses were in single digits.”

Johnson is now starting his AAU year already playing one tournament and getting ready for the EYBL.

“I will be running with Team Takeover this year,” Xavier said.  “First I'm looking to getting back to Peach Jam and winning it all. Second I want to prove that I can play with the top ranked players.”

With offers from Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Providence, North Carolina State, several mid majors, and Tulane, Johnson is off to a great start.  Johnson told us that Nebraska and Providence talk to him the most.

Several other programs are also in contact including Minnesota who has former Tulane Head Coach Ed Conroy on staff.  Conroy is keeping an eye on Johnson.

“I heard from Coach Conroy and he told me that he will be in contact with me and he will watch me play this spring/summer,” said Johnson.

The Gophers have a commitment from four star big Daniel Oturu and will have three or four more scholarships to give for 2018.

As far as Johnson goes a decision is a long ways away, but he knows what he is looking for in a program.

“I'm looking for a school that will help me reach my main goal, that will help me become a better person on and off the court, and let me work through mistakes on the court,” Xavier said.
