Gophers join several in offering NY wing

Six-foot-5, 190 pound Rochester, New York wing Jeenathan Williams has been another talent standing out within EYBL competition this spring. Minnesota offered Williams a scholarship this week.

Jeenathan Williams is a wing slasher from Rochester, New York’s University Prep Charter School for Young Men.  Playing with City Rocks he’s scored 12.6 points per game shooting 66 percent of the floor (takes about eight shots a contest in EYBL pay).

The EYBL has tested Williams every time out and he feels it’s went a long way in making him a better player and prospect.

“There are better and taller defenders in the EYBL that are physical so what u have to do to be successful is use your court IQ because there is very little room for mistakes,” said Williams.

“That’s one of the biggest challenges.  You have got to be a great defender too because everyone can score so you have to be disciplined on defense to contain or lock your man up.”

Based on an offer list that includes Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Providence, Marquette, North Carolina State, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Saint Louis, and so many others Williams is benefiting from playing in the league.

“EYBL has put me out there showcasing my talent,” Williams said.  “At this point the schools I’m hearing from the most are Marquette, Rhode Island, Virginia Tech, but it's been a lot I really can't name all the schools.”

The latest school to offer Williams is Minnesota.  They offered him a scholarship less than 24 hours ago so he has a lot to learn yet but so far Williams likes what he knows.

“(Minnesota) sounds great you know.   The coaching staff was straight forward with everything they said to me and I feel like it's a great program and great fit for my ability.”

Visits have not been set yet but that will come in the very near future.  Right now Williams is mostly focused on day to day improvement of his game.

“My goal is to be one of the top players in the country and get invited to the top camps to prove I'm one of the top players in the country,” Williams said.
