Gopher football target Darrell Jackson to wait

6-3 quarterback Darrell Jackson of Webster Groves (MO) High has decided to wait on making his college decision, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Jackson, who was named Post-Dispatch All-Metro offensive player of the year last fall, has received several scholarship offers, including one from Minnesota and has a visit schedule in December.

Darrell Jackson has scholarship offers from Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, Ball State and Northern Illinois. He has one official visit set to Illinois on December 5th. UCLA and Iowa have shown interest, but have yet to extend an offer.

Jackson made an outstanding splash last year as he contributed for 2,072 passing yards, 1,258 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns in his first season as a starter. The Statesmen won the MSHSAA Class 5 state championship and finished 10-2.

Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores in their season-opening 35-17 win over University City. He rushed 14 times for 36 yards and completed eight of 16 passes for 210 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 34 and 63 yards to Landon Fitzgerald.

Jackson averaged 7.7 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game on the basketball team that won the Suburban South League with an 8-0 mark. The Statesmen finished 17-10 overall.

Jackson attended the Missouri-Illinois game in St. Louis.
