Eric Hunter discusses Minnesota interest

Six-foot-3, 165 pound guard Eric Hunter of out Indianapolis was offered by Minnesota this winter and GI recently learned that Hunter plans to visit Minnesota this June.

Eric Hunter had Gopher Head Coach Richard Pitino in the gym this winter when he set the school record for career scoring and Minnesota assistant Ben Johnson watched Hunter play several times last summer and fall.

The staff has also watched Eric compete with Indiana Pros in the Adidas Silver Division this spring in Atlanta and Dallas.  Minnesota’s consistent attention has got Eric’s attention.

“In June I think I will be taking a visit to Minnesota,” Hunter said this weekend.  “I will be making that trip there.”

Eric has the physical ability to defend both guard positions and his game is growing to play both offensively as well. Hunter recently told Brian Snow of about his focus of improvement this spring.

"The spring is going okay. We are figuring out ways to win, and trying to move in the right direction as a team (the Indiana Pros are 4-4 on the Adidas Circuit).  I have been working on my point guard skills, while also still scoring when I have the opportunity to do so."

Minnesota is in need of defenders and talent that could add depth to both guard positions.  Eric fits that mold.

“Coach Richard Pitino likes my playmaking and scoring abilities the most,” Eric said.  “They came full staff deep to watch my first game in Atlanta.  That meant a lot.

“Minnesota’s interest started during the season and they came to watch me right before Big Ten play.  That’s when they saw me and that’s when they offered me.  I’ve had a relationship with Minnesota assistant Ben Johnson since the end of last summer.”

In addition to Minnesota, Eric has offers from Nebraska, Butler, Purdue, Xavier, and Creighton plus growing interest from other programs.  Hunter told recently that the process has a ways to go.

"I am still very open right now," explained Hunter to Brian Snow. "I will probably cut my list down after the summer, but I don't have a specific timeline for a decision."
