Jake Forrester is an explosive four man that has the exact type of agility that Minnesota and several other programs are looking for. Scout.com recently ranked Jake as the 26th best four man prospect in the nation.
The Latest….Jake recently visited South Carolina on an unofficial visit, was also recently at Virginia Tech, has been to Penn State and Temple, and recently said he’s looking at visits to Miami, Indiana, and Virginia…Jake expects to take fall visits and decide sometime before the early signing period…The most recent offer was from VT…
The Numbers…Jake averaged 13 points and about ten rebounds a game this winter for a state champion…In eleven EYBL games this spring Jake is averaging 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 61.2 percent on his 4-5 shots a game with the 11-5 PSA Cardinals and 60 percent from the foul line.
Minnesota…Gopher assistant Kimani Young has been in contact with Forrester for some time and the Gophers offered after watching Jake this spring. Jake is quick off his feet to board and finish, runs well, and moves well laterally. Has good length as well. Type of four man that they like to have defensively. The Gophers have not offered many power forwards. Just Jake and Race Thompson (Josh LeBlanc is a combo forward and Gopher commit Daniel Oturu is a center who can play the four as well) therefore Forrester is an important name although the Gophers are up against numbers programs (15 major conference offers).
The Video…The first thing you notice is how long Jake is. He looks every bit of 6-foot-8 and maybe even bigger. The form in the warm-ups? Not bad. But then things moved right into the dunk show as Jake finishes numerous high rising lobs…. Also looking good was a the threes made on the wing and in the corner and then the right shoulder turn touched in finish. One thing that needs to be noted on the dunks, it’s not just lob finishes, it’s also several putback dunks which are effort plays….Seems to like that right shoulder turn into a touched in jumper with shoulders squared…The left handed finishes on the move also caught my eye considering this is a right handed player…
What’s Next…Visits this month. Jake is hoping to take multiple.
The Verdict…Many of the east coast guys that Minnesota has landed took June visits. Jamir Harris, Isaiah Washington, Kevin Dorsey, and Dupree McBrayer all did. Not seeing Forrester list a June visit isn’t a great sign but that doesn’t mean that Jake won’t visit in August or September. Minnesota is also of course after Race Thompson and the local prospect is very important to this class but Forrester has talent that Minnesota is also after.
