"I just fell in love with the coaching staff and the new facility they're building up there in Minnesota," Florida cornerback Shamaur McDowell said to GopherIllustrated about why he decided to Row the Boat with Minnesota. "My father, brother and I flew up there yesterday morning to visit, and we really just went around campus and the football facility, plus I also talked a lot with the coaches. It was all really nice. My dad was very impressed as he didn't think Minnesota was going to look as nice as it did. He said Minnesota was beautiful. I can't even pick up one thing in terms of my favorite part of the visit as really everything was great. Talking with the coaches, seeing their facilities and campus. Everything was a highlight. I do love how campus is really beautiful, clean and there's a lot to do on it."
"I talked a lot with head coach P.J. Fleck, but also every other coach as well," McDowell explained to GI. "DB's coach Mo Linguist said that he really wanted me there as he believes that the 2018 class can change that school. Coach Fleck said really the same thing, but he also said they need defensive backs badly. They want to use me as a press man coverage corner and I'll do anything they want me to do, so I'm game for it. At the end of the visit, I just told coach Fleck that this was my home and that I'm ready to be a Minnesota Gopher. He was really happy and gave me a big hug. I'm done with the recruiting process now as I'm 110% committed to the Gophers. No more visits or college visits elsewhere. I want Gopher fans to know I'm ready to being a national championship to Minnesota."
