The Latest... Brendan Adams

The Gophers have their eyes on several combo guards that can stroke it and Brendan Adams is certainly one of those players.

At 6-foot-4 out of Baltimore Brendan Adams is a playmaker.  He handles the ball extremely well so he plays a lot of point but also has a great shooting touch and stands 6-foot-4 so he can play on the wing as well.  Adams is one of five combo guards that Minnesota is tracking closely.

The Latest…Latest offers are from Hofstra and Rhode Island….Adams took a visit to Stanford unofficially two weekends back…Miami, VCU, Stanford, and Wyoming were the schools that did in-home visits with him the last time schools could get out to do in-homes…The Adams offer list includes Minnesota, Kansas State, Stanford, and St. Joseph’s…Cincinnati, Maryland, Florida, and Harvard are some of the other programs in contact…

The Numbers…Adams plays in the EYBL with Team Melo who finished 9-7…Brendan scored 8.2 points per contest in the 16 spring EYBL games he played also putting up three boards and 1.5 assists per contest.  Nearly half of his field goal attempts came at the arc where Brendan shot just under 36 percent.  Made 87 percent of his foul shots (20 of 23)…

Minnesota….The Gophers obviously looking at guys that can handle but can also play the shooting guard and knock down shots.  There are five combo guys the Gophers are after: Adams, AJ Green, Jared Butler, Marcus Zegarowski, and Eric Hunter.  The Gophers offered Adams this winter and the difference between Brendan and the others is his size.  He stands 6-foot-4 and is long meaning he is the biggest of the group.

The Video…First impression is one of a guard that is extremely comfortable with the ball in his hands right or left…Definitely an explosive basket attack guard who has that Isaiah Washington style lay-up finish down…You can see how much bigger Adams is compared to the other guards and then you notice him throw down a backside alley-oop finish…Handles, handles, handles….Plays for one of the better programs in the Baltimore area…Makes only the one jumper in this game video but numbers and reputation also include Adams being an excellent shooter off the bounce or with feet set.

What’s Next…No June visits or camps have been announced or reported so next up that we know of would be the Peach Jam.  They are in the same pool as Howard Pulley.

The Verdict…Adams fits what Minnesota wants, a versatile and athletic guard that can do multiple things at multiple spots.  Not to mention Adams is a high academic kid and a high character person.  Adams has not talked about a Minnesota visit yet though while others have and Brendan recently visits Stanford.
