Gopher BB target Urule Igbavboa ready to shine

6-8 forward Urule Igbavboa of Oakdale (MN) Tartan had a somewhat disappointing summer as a member of the Howard Pulley Panthers AAU team. However, the junior forward, who is considered the top player in the state in the Class of 2005, is determined to bounce back this year. He helped lead the Titans to the semifinals of the Class AAAA state championship and averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Urule Igbavboa has bulked up from last year as he has gone from 185 to 204 pounds. He is playing on the football team and has caught a touchdown pass in the last three games. Igbavboa has 14 catches for 179 yards, but has eight grabs for 93 yards in the past two games as the team has started to utilize him more in the offense. The Titans are 3-3 this season.

Igbavboa received a scholarship offer from Minnesota in May. Kansas, Florida, Wisconsin, Marquette, Nebraska, Valparaiso and Vanderbilt have expressed interest in him. Florida, Wisconsin, Valparaiso and Vanderbilt recently attended open gyms at Tartan to watch him play.

The Titans return seven of their top eight players and figure to be one of the top teams in the state this season. Teammate Eric Coleman committed to Northern Iowa last month. Tartan will play in the Timberwolves Shootout at the Target Center in January.

Igbavboa told me that he is working hard to improve his outside shooting.
