Adam Mitchell named Swimmer of the Week

University of Minnesota sophomore Adam Mitchell was named CollegeSwimming.com's National Swimmer of the Week Thursday. Mitchell posted four individual first-place finishes, while gaining a second-place finish last week.

Mitchell recorded a top time of 1:50.16 in the 200 individual medley, while adding a personal best time in the 200 back in a dual meet against Florida. Mitchell, the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, had a 200 back time of 1:46.79 that provisionally qualified him for NCAA Championships. He followed his Florida performance with a provisional qualifying time of 48.81 in the 100 back and won the 200 back against Northwestern. Mitchell won first place as a member of the 200 medley relay team to help Minnesota to a 203-95 win.

The #8 Golden Gophers will take on North Carolina and North Dakota this weekend at the University Aquatic Center. Friday's competition begins at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is scheduled for a noon start.
