#19 Minnesota Volleyball Falls to #11 Penn State

The #19 ranked Minnesota volleyball team saw its back-to-back Big Ten title hopes dashed as it fell to #11 Penn State in four games 30-19, 30-26, 27-30, 30-24 on Friday in front of 4,658 fans, the fifth-largest crowd to watch a volleyball match at the Sports Pavilion. With the victory and an Illinois loss tonight, Penn State won the 2003 Big Ten title outright, snapping the Golden Gophers chance at a second straight conference title. It also snapped the Gophers' 13-match home-winning streak.

Despite the loss, Minnesota's Paula Gentil (Fortleaza Ceara', Brazil) set a school record for digs in a single match by a Golden Gopher with 33.

The Golden Gophers will wrap up the regular season against Ohio State at home on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. After the match Minnesota will honor its two seniors, Cassie Busse (Prior Lake)and Erin Lorenzen (Pipestone).

The Ohio State-Minnesota match will be on ESPN 2 on a tape-delayed telecast on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. The NCAA Selection Show will also be shown on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. on ESPNews.
