Volleyball teams advances to NCAA Region Finals

The 17th-ranked Minnesota volleyball team (24-10) advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals for the fourth time in five seasons with a four-game victory over No. 16 Northern Iowa (28-6) by scores of 30-25, 28- 30, 30-25, 30-23 on Saturday. Minnesota will travel to Long Beach, Calif., for the regionals, where it will take on the first seed in the region No. 4 Pepperdine on Friday, Dec. 12 at a time that will be announced later in the week.

Minnesota improved to 7-0 in the Sports Pavilion in NCAA Tournament play. They finished the home season with a 16-2 record. The 16 wins was the most the Golden Gophers have ever had at the Sports Pavilion.

Jessica Byrnes of Minnetonka hit .652 (17-2-23) and tied a career-high with 17 kills and three blocks, while Big Ten Player of the Year Cassie Busse from Prior Lake tied with a match-high 18 kills, had 11 digs, four assists and three blocks.
