Twelve football recruits make official visits to U

This weekend has been a busy one for Gopher sports. The basketball team defeated Western Illinois in non-conference play. The volleyball team advanced to the regional finals and the No. 1-ranked women's hockey team swept Bemidji State. The Gophers have a press conference scheduled for tomorrow about their bowl game plans and 12 football recruit, including five verbal commitments visited the campus this weekend. The players ate at J.D. Hoyt's and Manny's and visited Gameworks.

Six-foot-8, 320-pound offensive tackle Lydon Murtha of Hutchinson (MN) High; 6-0, 180-pound punter Justin Kucek of Canfield (OH) High, 6-1, 204-pound linebacker Leland Jones from Atlanta (GA) Douglass; 6-0, 189-pound running back/defensive back Dominique Barber from Plymouth (MN) Wayzata; 6-4, 215-pound defensive end Bill Brody of Cleveland (0H) Benedictin; 6-5, 230-pound defensive end Justin Kershaw of Reynoldsburg (OH) High; 6-6 tight end Jack Simmons of Mundelein (IL) Carmel; and 6-3 quarterback Johnny Carlson of Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins were among the players that visited the campus this weekend.
