Kris Humphries shines in Gophers' 88-58 win

Kris Humphries continued his strong play as he scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Gophers' 88-58 win over Long Beach State at Williams Arena. The Gophers (4-2) have won their fifth straight game at home.

Long Beach State remained close in the first half and led the game for three minutes, including a 15-11 lead after a three-pointer by Kevin Roberts. Minnesota went on a 14-2 run to take a 25-17 lead with 7:17 left in the first half and never trailed again. The Gophers led 41-32 at halftime.

The Gophers went on a 24-9 run to start the second half as they took a 65-41 lead with 11:07 to play in the game. A Michael Bauer jumper with 3:19 left gave the Gophers their largest lead of 33 at 86-53.

Humphries scored 20 or more points for the fifth time in six games this season, as he shot 11 of 18 from the field. Humphries was 6 of 6 from the free throw line. He reached double figures in rebounds for the third straight game and the fifth time this season. Maurice Hargrow added 15 points and four assists. He tied a career-high with three three-pointers in the game and scored in double-digits for the third straight game. Bauer and Ben Johnson added 11 points apiece.

Kevin Roberts led Long Beach State with 13 points and eight rebounds. Chris Jenkins and Cody Pearson each scored 12 points. Long Beach State made just 20 of 57 shots (35.7 percent) from the field.

Minnesota returns to action Friday night against Oral Roberts at Williams Arena. The tip is set for 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles are 4-3. They started the season 1-2 but have won three of their last four games. They upset crosstown rival Tulsa Saturday 87-81 and played Arkansas tough on the road, falling to the SEC team 77-71.
