Record-setting Philly RB makes Big East choice

5-10 running back Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley of Philadelphia (PA) West Catholic has committed to Syracuse. He set Philadelphia city records as the all-time career rusher (7,413) and the single-game record with 399 yards on 30 carries. Brinkley led West Catholic to a 7-6 mark as he carried the ball 327 times for 2,294 yards, 30 touchdowns and 186 points. He finished his career with 1,007 carries (a city record) for 7,413 yards.

Curtis Brinkley had 76 rushing touchdowns ans 85 total scores. He had 522 total points in his career. Brinkley picked the Orangemen over Minnesota, Iowa, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

His desire to play running back made Syracuse the favorite. Some schools were looking at converting him to defensive back.

Brinkley told the Post-Standard that the Orangemen seem to be a good fit.

"They've been recruiting me the longest," said Brinkley of Syracuse. "I'm comfortable with the coaching staff. I have a chance to play in the next year or two. I just wanted to find a place where I can play. That's the best place I can play in a year or two."
