NJ RB/LB Mike Green likes Gophers among 3 schools

6-1, 235 pound running back/linebacker Mike Green of Deptford (NJ) Deptford Township plans to visit Indiana Jan. 16 and Minnesota Jan. 30. He previously visited Virginia Tech and plans to choose between the three schools.

Mike Green had an honor-filled senior season. He was first-team Gannett News All South Jersey, Associated Press' All State, first-team All-State by the Courier Post, first-team All-Area by the Philadelphia Inquirer, first-team Gloucster All Group 3, South Jersey Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Year, Gloucster Defensive Player of the Year and Tri-County Conference Football first team defensive choice.

He rushed for over 3,000 yards in his career and had more than 300 career tackles. Deptford finished 12-0 this season as they won the South Jersey Group III title over Hammonton (9-3) 17-14. Deptford never trailed the entire season.

Green was not going to play basketball this season, but recently decided to join the team.

Deptford athletic director and vice principal Irv McFarland is a big booster of Green.

"He is the nicest kid you would want to meet. Nothing bad could be said about him. If we had 1,200 kids like him, you would not need discipline," McFarland siad.

McFarland said that Green is an above average student.
