John Morgan is going to walk-on Gopher FB team

The Minnesota Gopher football team has had excellent success with recruited walk-ons such as Ben West and Joe Quinn. The Gophers are hoping that they have discovered another hidden talent in 6-2, 200-pound wide receiver John Morgan of Rochester (MN) Mayo.

John Morgan was voted Big 9 Conference Defensive MVP and was named the Spartans' Most Valuable Player. He led the team to its second straight undefeated regular season as they won 23 straight regular-season conference games, a team record. They finished the season 10-1, losing to eventual state champions Lakeville 31-17 in the Region I finals.

Morgan had 40 catches for 564 yards and 10 touchdowns. He set a school record for single-season receptions and yardage. Morgan doubled as the team's kicker, making 55 extra points and one field goal as he finished with 118 points and played defensive back.

Morgan was named to the Minnesota Vikings All-State Football team.
