Gophers defeat St. Cloud State 7-4

The University of Minnesota men's hockey team kept their hopes for hosting a WCHA first-round playoff series next weekend alive with a 7-4 win over intrastate rival St. Cloud State. Five different Golden Gophers had multi-point games, including a two-goal, one-assist game from Thomas Vanek in the win. With a win or a tie today, Minnesota will play host to the Huskies in a best-of-three series next weekend. With a loss, UM will travel to St. Cloud to face the Huskies in the first round.

Minnesota out-shot St. Cloud State 29-27 for the game. Goalie Kellen Briggs picked up his first win in three decisions with 23 saves to improve to 19-10-3.

The two rivals face-off again today in the final game of the regular season at 2:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota's five seniors, Joey Martin, Koalska, Grant Potulny, Troy Riddle and Jon Waibel, will be honored before tomorrow's contest.
