On the heels of the news that Foley LB/TE Noah Dombrovski was interested in the U, teammate Paul Backowski made an unofficial visit to Dinkytown.
Backowski, a 6-foot-7, 249-pound junior, is an all-around athlete who starred at OT for the Falcons last fall. He's also the starting center on the basketball team and reached the state tournament in the shot put last year, in his first year in track.
Backowski is getting letters from schools all over the nation, including Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Harvard and Minnesota. He said while he enjoyed his visit, he's not leaning anywhere right now and doesn't expect to sign until next year.
"It's really wide open right now," Backowski said. "I haven't really picked any favorites. Academics and the football program will be huge. The size of the school won't matter much."
His unofficial visit to the U came over the weekend of March 6, when he attended the men's basketball team's victory over Penn State, watched some film and met members of the football program.
"It sounds like the U has a lot to offer," he said.
Backowski's coach, Larry Herm, says the player has a lot to offer a school, too.
"He's got good height, good athleticism, and he moves well," Herm said. "He runs a 5.1 in the 40 and he's a good kid with good support at home, which is huge these days."
