Redshirt sophomore C Aliou Kane to transfer to JC

Aliou Kane has decided to transfer from the University of Minnesota and leave the men's basketball team. Kane, a redshirt freshman center from Mauritania, Africa, played in 17 games and averaged 0.5 minutes, 0.5 points and 0.6 rebounds per game this season. He will reportedly transfer to a junior college and play there for one year with the ability to transfer to a Division I school for tww more years of eligibility.

Aliou Kane grew up in Mauritania, Africa and played at The Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia, where he was first-team all-state and named all-conference his junior and senior seasons.

"It's important for Aliou to gain playing experience at this point in his career," said head coach Dan Monson. "While we wish him the best of luck, we are sorry to see him leave the team as Aliou was a valued member of the Minnesota basketball program."
