J'son Stamper commits to Minnesota after visit

J'son Stamper, a 6-6 sophomore forward from Independence (KS) CC, has committed to Minnesota after visiting this weekend and he will wind up as the Gophers' fifth signee for 2003-04, according to sources close to the program. Stamper had been previously offered a scholarship by Minnesota, and Gopher head coach Dan Monson and assistant coach Vic Couch visited the Independence campus before heading to the recent NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

J'son Stamper was co-Player of the Year of the Jayhawk Eastern Division, along with Andrew Washington from Allen County. Stamper was also named to the first-team All–Region VI Team. He averaged 13.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. Stamper shot 51.9% from the field, 16.7% from three-point range and 56.6% from the line. He is an undersized power forward who needs to continue to expand his range.

The Gophers signed Spencer Tollackson, Miles Webb and Enrico Tucker in the early signing period and landed a commitment from Vincent Grier of Dixie State (UT) CC recently. The two junior college players are expected to sign a national letter of intent this week.

The Gophers were expected to bring in junior college transfer Terrell Everett of Southwest Missouri-West Plains (MO) CC for a visit, but he committed to Oklahoma over the weekend.
