Soph F Cory Johnson gets Gopher scholarship offer

Cory Johnson, a 6-6 sophomore forward from Duluth (MN) East, received a scholarship offer during his recent unofficial visit to Minnesota next week. Johnson is considered one of the top sophomores in the Midwest and helped lead the Greyhounds to the Section 7 Class AAAA finals before losing to Blaine.

Cory Johnson played for the Howard Pulley Panthers AAU program at the Boo Williams Invitational, helping them advance to the Gold division semifinals. He averaged 9.8 points this weekend, scoring in double figures in three of his five games.

Johnson told me that he enjoyed his visit to Minnesota. He attended the Kris Humphries press conference and was amazed by the camera flashes. Johnson went to Sally's for lunch and scrimmaged with the team.

Johnson has been invited to the Nike All-American Camp and Reebok abcd Camp in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Johnson is also receiving interest from Iowa and Marquette, who have already offered him a scholarship and Wisconsin, Creighton, Florida, Florida State and Valparaiso. That list will likely grow as more schools see him this summer at various AAU events.

Johnson will play with Howard Pulley at the Kingwood Classic in Houston April 23-25 and the Sabes Tournament April 30-May 2.
