Marcel Jones commits to Gophers

Marcel Jones, a 6-2, 205-pound quarterback from Inver Grove Heights (MN) Simley, became the first player to commit to the Minnesota Gophers football team, according to the Simley athletic director. The junior completed 78 of 146 passes for 1,567 yards. Jones threw for 10 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He is a running threat, as he gained 348 yards on 93 carries.

Marcel Jones, who is coached by his father Randy, received recruiting interest from Wisconsin, Illinois, Oregon Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Indiana and Louisville.

Jones recently traveled to Miami during spring break to compete in the Elite 11 quarterback camp.
