Ex-Tulane Frosh Dan Fitzgerald getting interest

Dan Fitzgerald, a 6-foot-8 freshman forward who recently left Tulane, has received plenty of contact from schools. Fitzgerald averaged 4.2 points in 14.8 minutes per game as a freshman for the Green Wave and was given his release last Friday.

Dan Fitzgerald was the St. Paul Pioneer Press Metro Defensive Player of the year as a senior and averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block per game for Mendota Heights (MN) St. Thomas Academy. Fitzgerald talked to Marquette head coach Tim Crean on Sunday, according to his former St. Thomas assistant coach Tony Yasbeck, and plans to visit Marquette in the near future.

Fitzgerald is planning a visit to Minnesota on Monday. Iowa State, which has a different staff than when Fitzgerald was in high school, and Georgetown have also called. Much of the Georgetown staff was previously at Princeton, who had recruited him.

Fitzgerald is an excellent outside shooter, although he struggled with his shot this past season. He shot 35.6 percent from the field, 62.5 percent from the line and 29 percent from three-point range.

Fitzgerald would have to sit out next season and have three years of eligibility left. St. Thomas has 6-9 sophomore Bryce Webster and several schools that are looking at Fitzgerald are also recruiting Webster.
