Chase Mudd getting plenty of Midwest interest

Chase Mudd, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker, recently attended the Minnesota football camp. Mudd paced Maple Grove to 6-4 record as they advanced to Class 5A section 6 semifinals last season. He was named All-Northwestern Suburban Conference honorable mention. Mudd played free safety last season but is moving to outside linebacker this year.

Chase Mudd has excellent quickness and runs the 4 x 100 yard relay and 100- and 200-yard dashes. He told me that he was slowed by hip flexor problems this spring and ran just a 11.4 100-yard dash, compared to an 11.2 as a sophomore.

Mudd is switching positions next year to take advantage of his size. However, due to the position changes, many schools are taking a wait-and-see attitude and will likely wait to see him play this fall before extending a scholarship offer.

Mudd also attended the Iowa State and Wisconsin camps along with the Minnesota camp in June. The Gophers have received commitments from two linebackers, which could hurt Mudd's chances of getting a Gopher offer.

Maple Grove is expected to be one of the top teams in the state as they return three outstanding seniors in Mudd, wide receiver Greg Martin and quarterback Mitch Brecke.
