Is Minnesota slipping on Tavale's list?

Allen Wallace of SuperPreps.com had a chance to talk with Minnesota Gophers recruit Ned Tavale. Where does the Cretin-Derham Hall prospect stand in making his decision?

Minnesota DL Nedward (Ned) Tavale (6-2, 301, 5.3) from St Paul Cretin Derham favors Iowa State and Illinois slightly over Minnesota. All have offered. "I don't mind leaving the state, I'd prefer it actually," said Tavale. "I'm trying to look toward the West Coast. I'm not dying for it, but that's where I'd like to go; I've got family there. Also, West Coast defense is quicker than East Coast defense.

"I wouldn't mind going to any of those schools (his favorite three); I'm really looking for a school with a good political science or criminal justice program. They all look good there."

Born in Salinas (lived in California for less than a year), this California native hopes to hear from some West Coast schools such as San Diego State, Fresno State or USC. He also likes his childhood favorite, Notre Dame.

"I went to the USC camp — that could be a school I'd like to go to and hopefully I'll hear from them. I'm also really hoping to hear from Notre Dame. They're like a dream school.

"I'm quick getting off the ball. I've got a good punch off the ball. I also have good footwork. Our coaches work on footwork a lot.

"I could use work on my hands, my hands are pretty slow."

Ned says he doesn't expect to make a decision until after the season.
