Illinois forward Warren Carter (Dallas, Tex.) and Wisconsin guard Clayton Hanson (Reedsburg, Wis.) each scored 13 points to lead a balanced Big Ten effort. Carter and Hanson were two of five Big Ten players to score in double-figures. Joining them were Dan Coleman (Minneapolis, Minn.) of Minnesota, who had 10; Iowa's Adam Haluska (Carroll, Iowa), who had 11 and Matt Marinchick (Hudson, Ohio) of Ohio State, who had 12.

guard Marlon Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Big Ten with six rebounds while Purdue
guard Brandon McKnight (South Bend, Ind.) had four and a team-best seven
assists. Smith was second on the team with five
assists. Northwestern's Davor Duvancic (Split, Croatia) had three steals
and three boards. The Big Ten squad had 22 assists, six blocks and 15
The Big Ten squad, led by Penn State assistant coach Kurt
Kanaskie (filling in for Penn State head coach Ed DeChellis who underwent
surgery last week), held on for the hard-fought win after posting a 48-37
halftime lead. Joseph M'Benque, who had 17 points, led Frejus.
Big Ten, now 1-0, will battle the Marseille-Fos Basketball Club tomorrow at 1
p.m. Eastern (7 p.m. local) in the second of five games. The next three
contests will take place in Italy.
