AP ranks Gophers #25 In preseason poll

The University of Minnesota football team is ranked No. 25 in the country in the Associated Press preseason poll released today. It is the first time under head coach Glen Mason and the first time since 1969 that Minnesota has been ranked in the AP poll. Minnesota, under head coach Murray Warmath, was ranked 19th in the 1969 preseason Associated Press poll.

The Big Ten has the most teams ranked in the top 25 with six. Michigan is ranked No. 8, Ohio State is No. 9, Iowa is No. 19, Wisconsin is No. 21 and Purdue is No. 24.

Last season, Minnesota won 10 games for the first time since 1905 and finished the season ranked 17th in the ESPN/USA Today poll and 20th in the AP poll. Minnesota opens the regular season on Sept. 4 vs. Toledo at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
