Gopher verbal Troy Reilly leads team to 42-0 win

Gopher verbal Troy Reilly, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound tight end from Stevens Point (WI) Area Senior High, led the Panthers to a 42-0 opening win over Chippewa Falls in a nonconference game Friday. The Panthers piled up 438 yards of total offense and allowed just 91 yards.

Troy Reilly was named first-team All-Conference tight end in the Wisconsin Valley Conference in 2003. Reilly led the Panthers to a 9-2 record last season and into the second round of the WIAA Division 1 playoffs for the second straight year. He is ranked 16th among Wisconsin's top players by the He attended the Minnesota and Wisconsin camps and received a scholarship offer the final day of the camp. Reilly also throws the shotput.


The Panthers are playing without standout quarterback Ted Schlafke, who is now at Minnesota-Duluth. Schlafke was a 2002 and 2003 All-Conference pick and the Conference Offensive Player of the Year and the Stevens Point Journal Player of the Year.


The Panthers will face Wisconsin Rapids in their home opener next Friday.
