Minnetonka TE Chris Joppru gains interest

Chris Joppru, a 6-5, 225-pound tight end of Minnetonka (MN) High, is considered an up-and-coming prospect. His brother, Bennie, was a standout tight end for the Michigan Wolverines who is now with the NFL's Houston Texans. Minnetonka is coming off an 8-3 season, but lost many key offensive player. Joppru is expected to carry a bigger role this season after playing behind a senior last year. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Chris Joppru to find out the latest on his recruitment.

What is the latest with your recruitment?

"I get daily letters from Ball State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State. I'm still getting recruited by Michigan and Minnesota."

What football camps did you attend this summer?

"I went to Minnesota for one day and Michigan for five."

What feedback did you get from those experiences?

"I did not really talk to the coaches at Minnesota since I was only there one day. At Michigan, they said that they were interested in me, but they want to see some tape on me since I did not get much playing time last season."

There was some talk that Michigan had said that they might want you to bulk up to play offensive line. Is that something that appeals to you?

"They said that they wanted to see me on tape and see if I could catch. It just depends."

Were you happy with your performance in the scrimmage?

"I thought I played pretty well."

You lost a lot of players on offense from last year's team. Is the style of offense going to change or are you going to be pretty run-orientated again this season?

"I think that we are going to pass a little more this year. We have some good size as receivers with two other receivers over 6-4."

Are you playing anything else besides tight end this season?

"I play a little bit at wide receiver. I'm also playing on the punt team."

Are you planning on taking any visits in the near future?

"I probably will. I'm not sure where yet, though."

Do you have a favorite school or is it still wide open?

"It is still up in the air."

Has anyone offered you yet?

"No."

Are you planning on playing basketball again this year?

"Yes, I'll play basketball this year."

I know that last year was your first year of playing organized ball. Did you enjoy it?

"I'Ve been going to all the open gyms to get a little better. Hopefully, I'll start."

Have you thought about what you would like to major in?

"Not really."

Have you taken the ACT test yet?

"I got a 21."
