Rhys Lloyd named Special Teams Player of the Week

Rhys Lloyd was named the Golden Sports Net/Denny Hecker special teams Player of the week for his performance versus Toledo in Minnesota's 63-21 win in the season opener.

Rhys Lloyd, who won the first ever Golden Sports Net/Denny Hecker Gopher Offensive Player of the Week, made all nine extra points. However, it was his running ability that made big differences for the Gophers, keeping two drives alive.

The Gophers were stopped on their first drive after three plays. However, Lloyd caught the Toledo special teams napping as he ran 21 yards for the first down. Justin Valentine capped off the drive with an 1-yard touchdown run.

Lloyd rushed for 6 yards on a fourth-and-1 situation in the final drive of the second half.

Lloyd had one punt for 34 yards, which landed inside the Rockets' 20-yard line.
