Marion Barber named Offensive Player of the Week

Marion Barber III, a junior running back, was named GoldenSports.Net/Outback Steakhouse's Gopher Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Barber rushed 31 times for 201 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 34-16 over Colorado State. The Minnesota Gophers scored four touchdowns and amassed 504 yards of total offense, including 360 on the ground, marking the eighth time in two years that the Gophers gained 300 or more yards on the ground.

Marion Barber III, who won the GoldenSports. Net/Outback Steakhouse Gopher Offensive Player of the Week, scored on a 19-yard run to put the Gophers up 7-0. The Gophers went 80 yards on five plays, all runs.

He also scored on a 61-yard run in the first quarter to put the Gophers up 14-3. Barber broke several tackles before pulling away from the Colorado State defenders. Barber III averaged 6.5 yard per carry for the game.

With his two touchdowns, Barber III is currently in third place on the school's all-time career rushing touchdown list with 30. He needs four more touchdowns on the ground to move into a tie for second place with his father, Marion Barber (1977-80).

Barber III recorded the 11th 100-yard rushing game of his career. He is currently in fifth place on the school list for 100-yard rushing games. He needs one more 100-yard game to move into a tie for fourth place with his father (1977-80).

Barber III passed Francis "Pug" Lund (1932-34) and Garry White (1977-80) to move into sixth place on UM's career rushing yards list. Barber III now has 2,435 yards in his career. He needs 47 yards to pass Tellis Redmon, who gained 2,481 yards from 1999-2001.
