Matt Pipho attracts Gopher interest

Matt Pipho, who is ranked as the 56th best prospect in the Midwest according to TheInsiders.com, attended the Minnesota-Northwestern game Saturday at the Metrodome. GoldenSports.Net caught up with the talent tackle to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Matt Pipho, a 6-foot 6 1/2 and 265 pound offensive tackle from La Porte City (IA) Union HS has received scholarship offers from Stanford and Iowa State, but he has also received interest from Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Miami and Notre Dame.

Pipho is a three-year varsity starter that was named all-district and all-state as a junior. He bench presses 350 pounds and runs a 5.1 40-yard dash. Pipho was the MVP of the Iowa Nike Camp, where he ran a 4.66 shuttle and was measured with a 31-inch vertical and did 26 repetitions on the bench.

Pipho is an excellent student with a 3.9 GPA and a 29 score on his ACT.

Pipho's uncle played football and lettered at Iowa.

Union is off to a 3-1 start, after losing to its homecoming game 26-20 to North Fayette last week. The Knight face Waterloo Columbus Friday
