Gophers Falling on WR's List

The Gophers' stock is falling on a list of favorites from a talented wide receiver out of Michigan, and Minnesota's loss last weekend might have something to do with that. But the Gophers can still expect a visit.

Detroit (MI) WR Talonnie Russell (5-11, 175, 4.4, Scout.com's #12 WR) now favors Wisconsin and Michigan State over LSU, North Carolina and Minnesota.

"Wisconsin leads slightly for me right now," says Russell, from St. Martin De Porres. "I like how they throw the ball a lot. And they've got a good business program there too. They spread out their WRs and they like to mix up their game.

"It's definitely a balanced effort they provide because they like to run and pass the ball. I've gotten to know coach (Henry) Mason (WRs) pretty well lately. He's a nice person and a funny guy.

"Michigan State falls in as my No. 2 school. They like to spread the ball out too with four wide receivers, and they move the ball to them well. I think they throw the ball a little more than Wisconsin.

"North Carolina used to be my leader. They are not that far behind the other two teams though. I like how they spread the ball out also.

"As far as making a commitment, well … I'm not sure when I'm going to do that."

Other offers include Illinois and Iowa.

Russell says he will officially visit Wisconsin (12/3), Michigan State, LSU, North Carolina and Minnesota.
