Lakeville WR Andy Metz Still Looking at Gophers

Andy Metz, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver from Lakeville (MN) High, was named to the All-Lake Conference team earlier this week. Metz played in the shadow of All-State wide receiver Vinny Flury as a junior on Lakeville's state championship team. However, Metz has emerged as a top prospect in his own right as a senior.

Andy Metz has good size and speed and has attracted the attention of several teams, including Minnesota after attending their football camp this summer and the Gophers' homecoming game versus Illinois and the season finale against Iowa last Saturday.

Metz, who runs a 4.5 40 and can bench press 225 pounds, led the Panthers to a 5-5 mark as they lost to Rochester Century 20-14 in double overtime.

Metz does not participate in any winter sports, but told me that he plans to run track for Lakeville, participating in the 4 x 100 relay and 100- and 200-yard dash.

Metz recently sent game tapes to Minnesota, Wyoming and Cincinnati. He also said that Iowa State is also in the mix.

Metz attended the Gophers football camp this summer and the Nike Camp in Iowa City.

He attended the Iowa State season opener against Northern Iowa and had previously told GoldenSports.net that he would welcome an offer from Minnesota and Iowa State.

"I really like Minnesota and Iowa State. If I had a chance to go to either one, I would."

Metz posted a 24 score on his ACT and is thinking about majoring in business.
