Gophers Return to Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl

The University of Minnesota has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2004 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Presented by Bridgestone. The Gophers will face an opponent from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on Friday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. (CST) at The Coliseum in Nashville, Tenn. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN. Minnesota's SEC opponent will be announced at a later date.

The Gophers will be appearing in their third consecutive bowl game for the first time in school history and this will also be the program's fifth bowl appearance in the past six seasons. Minnesota defeated Arkansas, 29-14, in the 2002 Music City Bowl before defeating Oregon, 31-30, in last season's Sun Bowl. The Gophers have also participated in the 1999 Sun Bowl and the 2000 Bowl during head football coach Glen Mason's eight seasons at Minnesota.

This year's game marks the seventh Music City Bowl and the third season a representative from the Big Ten Conference will participate.
