MN Power Forward Attracts Plenty Of Interest

Trevor Mbakwe, a 6-foot-7 sophomore power forward from Mendota Heights (MN) Henry Sibley, scored 20 points in their season-opening 73-58 loss to Hastings Tuesday night. Mbakwe is considered one of the top players in Minnesota among the Class of 2007 along with Bloomington Jefferson center Cole Aldrich. He is a strong inside player and rebounder. Mbakwe will attend the Illinois-Wake Forest game Wednesday night and has already received a scholarship offer from Iowa State.

Trevor Mbakwe said that he likes Wisconsin, Marquette, Illinois and Iowa alot and is also hearing from Minnesota, Colorado, Valparaiso and Purdue. He said that Marquette, Wisconsin and Minnesota are very interested in him and could soon join Iowa State in offering him a scholarship.

Mbakwe led the Classic Suburban Conference in rebounding last year with 12.8 rebounds per game and added 13 points per contest. He is expected to carry more of the scoring load this season with the graduation of Bobby Hunter, who led the Classic Suburban in socring last season with 20 points per game as the Warriors finished 11-16.

Mbakwe played for the Thunderbirds and Howard Pulley AAU teams this past summer. He visited Wisconisn and Marquette along with several Howard Pulley teammates in October.
