Tavale Talks About Minnesota Visit

Nedward Tavale, a three-star offensive lineman from St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall, has three schools at the top of his wish list. Tavale visited Minnesota last week and he's headed to a Big XII school this weekend. Does he still have an offer from Illinois? Does he have a leader? We've got the latest right here.

"I went to Minnesota last weekend and had a great visit," said the 6-foot-2, 305-pound Tavale.

"The players at Minnesota are really tight. I haven't seen anything like that at other schools.

"The relationship between the coaches and players at Minnesota is something I see as a real positive, plus, the campus is close to home."

Does Tavale have official visit plans for this weekend?

"I'm going to Iowa State," Tavale said. "Iowa State has offered me a scholarship and I like the coaches there as well. I'm looking forward to my visit."

Illinois offered Tavale a scholarship in the fall, but has Nedward heard from the new coaching staff yet?

"Coach (Harry) Hiestand called me a couple of nights ago and told me that I still have my offer from Illinois. I'm scheduled to visit Illinois on Dec. 17.

"I'm anxious to meet with the new staff. Coach (Ron) Zook, from what I heard, is a straight forward guy.

"My coach (Rich Kallock) had a lot of positive things to say about coach Zook as well.

"I don't have a leader right now. I'm going to take all my visits and weigh all my options. I'm also talking to Utah, Washington and Boise State but they haven't offered yet."

Tavale was a second-team all-state selection in 2004. He had 50 tackles, four sacks and an interception on defense. Tavale averaged six pancake blocks per game on offense.

What are his plans at the next level?

"I'm going to be an offensive guard." Tavale said. "I'm being recruited as a guard, but I played guard and tackle this year.

"I love to pancake defenders. I love to pull and get out to the linebackers and the secondary, making big blocks for the running backs."
