Dan Elling Gets Gopher Walk-0n Interest

Dan Elling, a 6-foot-2 defensive end from Minnetonka (MN) High, helped lead the Skippers to a Class 5A championship over Classic Lake rival Wayzata. Elling transferred from Eden Prairie after starting as a sophomore and junior for the Eagles. The cousin of Minnesota Viking kicker Aaron Elling, he is getting some walk-on interest from Minnesota as well as attention from some Division I-AA and Division II schools in the Midwest.

Dan Elling led the Skippers to a 13-1 mark as a senior. He took the ACT in November and is waiting for the scores.

Elling was hearing from Iowa, Iowa State, Notre Dame, North Dakota, south Dakota State, St. Cloud State and Minnesota. However, things have quieted down somewhat.

Elling said that the Gophers have talked about him walking-on.

Elling plans to visit Division II Nebraska-Omaha along with teammate Hank Goff Jan. 20.

"We have talked about playing together. We're pretty close."

Elling said that he plans to major in marketing. He has a 3.5 GPA.

Elling runs a 4.8 40-yard dash and bench presses 325 pounds.

He also throws the shot (45 feet) and discus (130 feet).

Elling admits that he is uncertain where he will be playing next season.

"I'm not sure yet. I have no clue yet."
