CC Roughs Up Gophers

The Gophers men's hockey team took a severe tumble over the weekend while being swept by Colorado College, the new No. 1 team in the polls.

Minnesota came into the weekend unbeaten at home.

It left the weekend crushed by Colorado College.

After being swept at Marricuci Arena 3-2 in overtime and 5-3 this weekend, the Gophers dropped from from to fourth in the both the Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey polls behind Colorado College, Boston College and Michigan.

The sweep was a stunning turnaround after two months of outstanding play. Minnesota led twice in Saturday's game and seemed to have things in control until a quick goal off a face-off at 2:43 in OT gave the Tigers the victory. Although Sunday the Gophers came out strong and scored first, the wheels came off and the Gophers caromed to a 5-3 defeat in the rematch.

The weekend sweep gives CC several tie-breakers over the Gophers in postseason seeding. With both teams expected to go far in postseason, the results of this weekend could very well have ramifications in March.
