Marion Barber III To Announce His Status Saturday

Junior running back Marion Barber III will announce his decision pertaining to the National Football League draft tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 15 at a 10 a.m. media conference in the team room at the Gibson-Nagurksi Football Complex. Barber III and sophomore running back Laurence Maroney were both named the team's Bronko Nagurski Award winners, which is given to the team's offensive MVP. Speculation is that he will enter the NFL Draft before the January 15th deadline.

Marion Barber III joined Laurence Maroney in the 1,000-yard club for the second straight season by rushing for 167 yards against Iowa in the season finale, placing him at 1,082 yards for the season. Barber is fourth in the Big Ten in rushing and 29th in the nation, averaging 98.4 yards per game. Barber and Maroney became the first duo in NCAA history to each rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons.

Barber tallied 187 yards on 37 carries with one touchdown and was named the Music City Bowl Most Valuable Player in leading the Gophers to a 20-16 victory over the Crimson Tide.
