Cole Aldrich Talks About His Recruitment

Cole Aldrich, a 6-9 sophomore center from Bloomington (MN) Jefferson, is ranked the No. 6 player in the Class of 2007 by Scout.com and attended the Minnesota-Wisconsin game Saturday. College Basketball News recently caught up with the talented big man to find out the latest on his recruitment.

Cole Aldrich scored 13 points in the Jaguars' 53-41 loss to Eastview Tuesday night. Jefferson has struggled offensively this season as they are just 7-11. Aldrich is averaging 13.7 points per game this year, which is made more impressive by the fact the Jaguars are only averaging 48.2 points per contest.

That has not stopped many of the top teams in the country from expressing interest in Aldrich.

Aldrich averaged 12.0 points and 8.6 rebounds as a freshman as Jefferson finished 12-13. He played at the Nike Jamboree in St. Louis in June and with the Minnesota Magic AAU team this past spring and summer. Aldrich did not attend any of the individual shoe camps in July, opting to play for his AAU team in the 15-and-under championships.

He has received scholarship offers from Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin and Kansas.

Kansas head coach Bill Self caught Aldrich's nine-point, 11-rebound, 11-blocked-shot effort earlier this season against crosstown rival Bloomington Kennedy. Aldrich has been to Lawrence for a game last season and attended their Midnight Madness this year. He recently attended the Jayhawks' game versus Texas, which prompted rumors of Aldrich commiting to Kansas.

How was the visit to Kansas? It sounds like it went pretty well.

"It was a lot of fun. The game was definitely crazy. The fans were rocking, so it was cool."

I had read some stories about you being close to committing. Has that cooled a bit since you've been back?

"It crossed my mind a little. It is still early, so I am definitely going to see how the summer goes and have some fun."

Did they want you to commit?

"They wanted me to a little. I'm just going to see how the summer goes and have some fun. That's all."

You are planning on playing for the Minnesota Magic again, right?

"Yes."

What individual shoe camp are you planning to attend this summer?

"I think that I might go to the ABCD camp (in Teaneck, New Jersey). I'm not totally positive."

What types of things are you doing to improve on your game?

"I was sick for two weeks and lost 10 pounds or so. I have to get back in the weight room and get in the cafeteria a little more."
