After an up and down season, the Gophers men's hockey team started the postseason on a high note by beating Minnesota State 7-2 in the first game of their first-round, three-game WCHA playoff series.
The Minnesota Golden Gopher hockey team spent several weeks ranked No. 1 nationally during the middle of the season. Since then, they have floated in the lower half of the top 15. Regardless, Don Lucia and the Gophers have a history of heating up in March and they seem to be off to another good postseason start.
They enter the postseason riding a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1), snuck up to finish in the top three of the final standings of the WCHA, which dramatically improves their WCHA playoff championship chances.
The Gophers face Minnesota State again tonight at 7:07 pm at Mariucci arena.
