The University of Minnesota "M" Club Hall of Fame, in conjunction with WCCO Radio, will announce its 2005 Hall of Fame inductees, Thursday, June 9. Dave Lee of "Morning News with Dave Lee" will announce the 16-member class at 8:10 a.m. Selected inductees will be interviewed on the program, beginning at 8:20 a.m.
"The 2005 class is very deserving of this honor," William Humphries, M Club President, said. "The
inductees define the history of Golden Gopher athletics and having WCCO Radio participate in the announcement makes it even more exciting given the long-standing relationship between the university and the radio station as a media partner."
The purpose of the Gopher Sports Hall of Fame is to honor achievements and to preserve the tradition of those athletes, coaches and athletic staff members who have contributed in an outstanding and positive way to the University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Department.
The criteria for induction to the Hall of Fame includes four different categories: significant
accomplishments by a former student-athlete; significant achievements by a former coach or administrator; significant contributions of time, talent or resources to the athletics department by someone other than an athlete, coach or administrator, and significant professional achievement by a former Minnesota student-athlete.
Former student-athletes inducted for significant accomplishments become eligible for selection five years after the expiration of their eligibility, while former coaches and staff members must have served the department for five years to be eligible.
The 2005 class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the annual Gopher Sports Hall of Fame Banquet, Thursday, Sept. 22. The banquet will be held at the McNamara Alumni Center on the Minnesota campus and will be the kickoff to the Hall of Fame Weekend. The inductees will also be honored at halftime of the Gophers women's soccer game against Purdue on Friday, Sept. 23 and the football homecoming game, also against Purdue on Saturday, Sept. 24.
For Hall of Fame banquet ticket information, contact the M Club at (763) 566-5895.
