FL RB Desmond Gee Attends Gopher Football Camp

Desmond Gee, a 5-foot-6, 159-pound running back from Madison (Fla.) County, attended the Minnesota Gopher football camp this past week. Gee, who ran a 4.35 40-yard dash during the camp, is one of the quickest players in the country and he has gotten interest from some of the top programs in the country. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Gee to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Desmond Gee has led Madison County to a runner-up spot in the Class AA championship for the second straight year as they finished 12-1. They lost in the title game to the Immokalee Indians 17-15, despite Gee gaining 152 yards for the Cowboys. Gee rushed for more than 1,900 yards with 29 touchdowns as a junior and was named first-team Florida Class AA All-State as a utility player. He rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 28 touchdowns as a sophomore and was a second-team Florida Class AA All-State running back.

Gee overcame adversity, as his mother died two weeks before the state title game, leaving him to live with his grandmother (his father resides in Las Vegas).

Despite his lack of size, Gee said that he has received plenty of recruiting interest.

"I have offers from South Carolina, Southern Mississippi, East Carolina, South Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa State."

Gee, who shined during scrimmages at the Gopher summer camp, has a cousin who lives in the Twin Cities. He has yet to receive an offer from the Gophers, but that could change. He said that he also plans to attend the Florida State and USC camps.

Gee is a good student and said that he has a 3.0 GPA and posted a 22 on his ACT. He said that he is wide open in his recruitment and will likely wait until February before making his college decision. Gee said that schools are looking at him as a slot receiver, running back or athlete.

Gee was measured as having a 32 ½ inch vertical. He also runs on the track and field team, participating in the 100-yard dash and the 4 x 100 relay. Gee finished eighth in the state meet in the 100 with a time of 10.89 seconds.
