Big Ten has Three Teams in USA Preseason FB Poll

The Big Ten was well represented in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll with a national-best three programs appearing among the top 10 and eight of the 11 teams receiving at least one vote, including Minnesota. The Gophers will open the season Sept. 1 at Tulsa.

The Big Ten topped all conferences with three top-10 programs, led by defending conference co-champion Michigan ranked fourth in the country behind No. 1 USC, No. 2 Texas and No. 3 Tennessee. The Wolverines were chosen as the conference's preseason favorite by media members attending the Big Ten football media days in early August.

Ohio State was the next league team to appear in the top 10 at No. 9 overall, while fellow 2004 co-champion Iowa appeared at No. 10.

Purdue was the fourth conference school to appear in the top 25 as the Boilermakers were rated 16th overall. Four other Big Ten teams received votes in the poll in Wisconsin, Penn State, Minnesota and Michigan State.

The 110th season of Big Ten football kicks off from September 1-3 with 10 of the 11 league teams taking the field for non-conference action.
